Congratulations on being our October’s Featured Dominican stylist! One of the reasons we selected to feature you is because your salon is one (1) of very few Dominican salons in the mid-west. Would you say Dominican salons are popular in
Thank you for selecting me, I receive a lot of customers from your website. Yes, I would say we’re pretty popular. But like you mentioned, there aren’t a lot of Dominican salons here, so it makes it hard for women to find us.
How would you describe women with caring for their hair in
I think women in
Do you see a lot of natural hair in
Actually I have more natural hair clients than relaxed. I have very few relaxed customers.
That’s interesting! So maybe you can help me, at RoundBrushHair.com we get a lot of natural hair customers who have either been to a Dominican salon or want to go to a Dominican salon but aren’t sure how they can keep up the straight style. What do you tell your natural clients?
Well, I tell them not to put a lot of heat in their hair. What some are used to doing is going home after the salon and using the flat iron the very next day – that’s too much heat for the hair. I advise them to make a dobbie after they leave the salon (or before bed) and not to use the iron.
I also recommend using the Brazilian Keratin treatment. I studied the technique and how to apply the treatment in
What about me for instance, I have naturally curly hair. I don’t get relaxers anymore, but I get my hair straight at the Dominican salons in
No, you will still have your curls. The only difference is that your curls will be more manageable.
What about products for the regular care of your hair? Which are your favorites for weekly or daily use?
The Silicon Mix Conditioner and Lacio Lacio Leave-In. I use both of these in my salon, and I also have the Lacio Lacio for sell.
Exclusively from RoundBrushHair - Harlet is offering free cuts with a relaxer or a free trim with a color or highlight service.

Deeeeeetroooiiit! Yay! Thanks for the shout out, Jennifer! I had the best time taking the pics and Harlet is a sweetheart! Great interview! Harlet is right: most women in the D have naturals which is something that I love. Its totally and completly embraced here. I’m so excited to see this article!
have no doubt about it, Harlet can do some great hair!
Thank god you interviewed someone in my state. About 2.5 hours away, but that’s closer than the other salons! Thanks.
Wow Great tips ….glad to see a stylist suggest some products as well…great job Roundbrushhair.com
I currently go to Dominican Hair Salon on Michigan Ave., and theres only 2 Dominican Salons in Detroit, how would I know which salon is the best for me? Do Dominicans use same products and techniques?
I know both of the Owners Harlet @ this salon and Martina @ Dominican Styles on Michigan Avenue..they both do good work and they both basically use the same products….Martina gets to take her time on your head and is a little more personable because she doesn’t hav that HUGE clientele that Harlet has….They both do a great job though..so it is a matter of choice.
I am one of the many clients Harlet has. I have very curly hair and not many people have the patience and experience with my type of hair. She is the best! She does the best cuts and blow drying. I have tried different stylest and no one does hair like her.
Went to Harlet’s shop! Nancy did my hair and I love it!!!!
I went to Harlets and didnt really know the procedures but once my hair was finished I was sooo happy and the price is wonderful I can get my hair done weekly now yay!!!! I have natural African American hair so when wet its tangled and dandruff, but when my hair was dried no dandruff on my smock.
i had been hearing so many good things about roundbrush blow drys and dominican hair salons, so i tried it out right after coming out of a sew in. LOT of new growth. Harlet did a good job straightening my hair and making it feel like I had an relaxer. My hair was so soft , she does not really style that well though. Plus back in two weeks. I even let her color it. satisfied so far. i hope she will help my hair grow out too.
