Arelis Dominican Salon II Grand Opening!

Published by admin at 4:50 pm under Featured Stylists

If you drove past the newest Dominican salon in PG county Maryland located at 11000 Baltimore Ave. in Beltsville the night of January 10th, you would have thought it was a serious party going on! Only instead of a top-shelf bar and VIP tables, people were dancing around hair dryers and styling chairs celebrating the grand opening of Arelis Dominican Style #2.

Women in the state of Maryland are really getting spoiled when it comes to the number of Dominican salons they have to choose from. Once upon a time, you could only find Dominican salons in downtown Silver Spring. Now they have locations in Landover, District Heights, Hyattsville, Edgewood and the newest of all….Beltsville.

Arelis Natera may be new to Beltsville, but she’s no stranger at all to Dominican hair styling or RoundBrushHair.com. Arelis was one of our very first featured Dominican stylists last year, as one of the pioneers to Dominican styling in the state of Maryland. Now she’s expanding her reach with Arelis Dominican Salon II - placing her signature ‘big hair’ look in a busy part of town with no Dominican salons. Arelis opened the second salon to accommodate her clients who drive at least 30 minutes to her salon in Silver Spring. “I have a lot of customers who live in Columbia and Laurel Maryland who have asked me to open a salon closer to them.” Beltsville seemed to be perfect location to cater to women in the Northern parts of Maryland.

The salon opened to the public officially on January 2, 2009, but celebrated her opening 8 days later. Arelis invited RoundBrushHair.com Team Members to attend the grand opening fiesta and agreed to offer her clients the Silicon Mix line of products available at RoundBrushHair.com, in addition to the line she uses exclusively at her salon called Time Line. “We use Time Line exclusively in my salon. Shampoo, conditioner, cellophane – everything. But I know a lot of women are used to Silicon Mix products, so I’m happy to offer them here.” Arelis is the distributor for Time Line products, and offers these items for sale separately or in gift bag sets.

Although this is Salon # II, the name and styling ability is about the only thing similar to Salon # I. Salon # II is more modern in look with bright yellow and orange walls, flat screen TVs, cozy couches in the waiting area, and free parking (yay! no more meters!!). Arelis even recruited new Dominican stylists to bring over to her new salon so salon # 1 wouldn’t suffer from being short-staffed.

So the next time you’re traveling up Rt. 1, make sure you check out Arelis Dominican Salon II, it’s in the shopping center directly across the street from Costco near Power Mill Rd.Enjoy $25 wash and sets every Tuesday & Wednesday! This does not include deep conditioning or apply to natural hair. And every Thursday pay only $75 for a relaxer and cellophane which is normally priced at $95.

Arelis is a fantastic hair stylist, perhaps one of the best in DC. She truly cares about the health and maintenance of your hair. Relaxer, blow out, cut or color - Arelis and her team of stylist are simply the best. I highly recommend any clients living in the Beltsville area visit her new salon on Baltimore Avenue. You definitely will not be disappointed!

After reading the ratings–I finally decided to visit the salon last week. I would not recommend attending if you have natural-unprocessed hair. Upon arrival, I inquired about desired services to be provided. I did not receive the same treatment because my hair was natural. Instead, i was told “we have to hand blow dry your hair” There were no rollers placed in my hair and no real explanation. I inquired but was told “its more difficult for us to do” This clearly is ridiculous for 75.00–My hair was washed before being dyed, conditioned, blow dryed by hand and flat ironed. The first beautician–who blow dryed did a terrible job. It took her more than an hour to blow dry my hair. She stated “you need the heat” Of course, I was then transferred to the owner, who flat ironed and attempted to make me feel a little better. I set as several cliets walked away looking gorgeous–while I transferred to have my hair flat ironed with lots of products added. So, those interested in mataining healthy natural hair–this is the wrong place.

Charla, I am sorry about what happened to you. My sister has natural hair and she has NEVER had a straight blow dry, she gets roller set, blow out and style and she leaves looking FABULOUS as the rest of us do. Arelis, herself, has natural hair and is the BEST with natural hair, I have seen in the Dominican stylist word of hair. Perhaps, you should request thatArelis do your hair. Natural hair can be overwhelming for some people and natural hair as the hues of our skin comes in many different forms. I am a tried and true fan of Arelis as a female business owner and a stylist. I have tried a few other Dominican salons and Arelis wins for me, hands down. Give her, Arelis, another try. Request only she do your hair this time. Let us know how you make out. Good luck.

I got excited when I saw this new salon on Route 1, but then remembered the one BIG problem I have with Dominican stylists, and that’s the blow-out. I don’t need that much heat to straighten out my roots…and since the dryers only seem to have one setting, they constantly burn my scalp. How do I request a “mild” (for lack-of-a-better word) blowout? Does anyone ever skip the blowout and ask them to just wrap it? Thanks.

I have gone to Arelis I. Now I go to Arelis II. Business is really starting to pickup for Arelis, which I am happy about for her. However, I can only hope things don’t get so crazy I can’t get it. Seriously, I am hoping for much success for the shop. Arelis works hard and really deserves it.

CT, the dryers have multiple settings. You can ask one of the ladies to turn the heat down for you or you can do like me and turn it down yourself (LOL). - Good Luck!

  10. CTon 08 Apr 2009 at 8:04 am

Sorry, I guess I wasn’t clear. I meant the HAND held dryer–when they are blowing my hair out…

  11. Jenniferon 11 Apr 2009 at 1:09 pm

    Hi CT,

Yes, you can skip the blower and ask for a wrap!

  12. MikeyBon 13 Apr 2009 at 11:05 am

A beautiful looking salaon - congratulations Arelis, here’s rto your continued success!

I have been going to Arelis for about 2 years now. I have tried many of the Dominican Salons in Silver Spring, and Arelis doesn’t compare. I truly agree that this shop takes care of your hair. At many of the other salons I went to, there was a long wait, then they would just wash your hair, blow it out and you were done. The other salons didn’t even take time to style my hair.

Every time I go to Arelis, I get Albania to blow it out and she is wonderful. They take time to really wash my hair and make sure its clean, then I get a nice conditioner, and great blow out for a wonderful price. If you haven’t tried Arelis yet, please do so. You will leave with a full bouncy hairstyle that makes you feel beautiful. I live in Laurel and am going to try the one in Beltsville this week.

Thanks for all you do Arelis!

i heard the dominican hair salons were really good with long hair…. and i want to get some big curls….my hair is thin but full and curly…. but i dont know exactly what to get…

  15. Rhondaon 25 Apr 2009 at 4:09 pm

CT, This is in response to your question about them turning the heat down on the blow dryer..well that I can not say but I can say that the I go to a Dominican shop in Hampton VA and the lady that styles my hair uses a technique where the dryer is not directly on my scalp. She told me she does this because I did not need the direct heat on on my hair each time. It comes out straight but not as straight as with the full dryer but it is more healthy especially if your hair is fragile due to breakage or shedding.

  16. Anitaon 16 Jun 2009 at 9:40 pm

I love the shop and Arelis, I just hate when it comes time to blow out my hair. The heat hits my scalp and it hurts really bad. I wish they all would learn how not to burn your scalp, and use less heat on your hair. I know it can be done. I have been to shops and maybe one of the stylist knows how to blow out your hair with out burning your scalp sooo bad.

I visited this shop last Wed after a friend saw it in passing. The $25 on Wed deal was also of great importance. At the recommendation of the woman at the front desk, I got a Mega conditioner (frankly I went along with it b/c the service was only $25). As I sat under the dryer with the conditioner in my hair, I watched as MANY women left the stylists’ chairs with DRY hair. There was little bounce, gloss, or glow. I was a little worried. After washing the conditioner out, my hair was clearly TANGLED as the stylists tugged & pulled to get the comb through. This is NOT what happens after my hait is washed. I told the stylist I wanted a curly style, she rolled it up. After it dried, I reiterated the curly style request, to which the (new) stylist agreed, as she repeated the request. She then proceeded to blow the entire length of my hair out, eliminating the curly option. I then has to tell her NOT to put the flat iron in my hair - I wanted it curly. She then finger-rolled my hair UNDER and I went back under to dryer to attempt to get curls.

I left the salon with “clean” hair, but it was not curly and was very dry. I will never return to this salon. The $25 price is NOT WORTH IT.

I went to Areilis II. In less then 5min my hair was being washed but when I walked out of the salon..,my hair looked like the glorious victory….I was a D.I.V.A……my only problem is how do you make the style last for two weeks?

I have been going to Arelis II for a few monhs now — the service is great. I have 2 daughters, one with a relaxer and short haircut; the other, natural. Frances was able to style both girls with perfection — both by teenager and 6 year old left the salon looking gorgeous and feeling like princesses. Frances takes the time to listen to what the client wants and tries to make sure that their needs are met. I definately plan to continue bringing my girls to the salon and wish Arelis continued success.

Today was my first visit to Arelis I & I didn’t leave disappointed. I was pleasantly surprised that all stylist at least spoke basic English at a minimum, which is Important to me since there needs to be “communication” in order for me to reqest specific services & be able to ask questions, etc….More importantly, without having an appt on a Sunday, no less…I was in & out under an hour 1/2, with healthly, beautiful, SHINY, hair! And as a previous person stated, the stylist actually ASKED me exactly how I wanted my hair styled & she did better than I ever expected. I also got a cellophane treatment for only $10 extra. You couldn’t tell me that I wasn’t Top Model Material walking out the door to Arelis I today & TRUST ME WHEN I SAY TO YOU ALL THAT I’M HARD TO PLEASE WHEN IT COMES TO MY HAIR ESPECIALLY…& DON’T THROW OUT COMPLIMENTS FREELY. Not exactly sure the name of the lady who knelt down in front of me while I was getting blown out, but she took the time to say “Welcome!” May sound corny, but that single act of thoughtful customer service goes a long way. Prices very reasonable! Will definitely recommend to others when they compliment me on my hair this week & will return in the future with my teenage daughter. A breath of fresh air.

I LOVE GETTING MY HAIR DONE AT ARELIS!!! I AM ALWAYS SATISFIED WHEN LEAVING THE SHOP…AND THE PEOPLE ARE REALLY NICE TOO!

I was getting excited about visiting Areils’ to give the Dominican’s another try. However after reading from the Areils II, I must admit I am very skeptical… I have natural hair, My experience was way too much heat on my hair left the shop looking very nice however it was short lived the straightened hair was gone in 24 hours, very disappointing, it was early summer I expected it to last at least a week. What alternatives if any are available at your shop beside the straight look. Over the summer I used kinkykurly products & the look was great except I did not want to have the damp hair every morning during the winter. DESPERATE!

    Hello,

I am going to venture out and begin getting my hair taken care of by a professional. I have read the reviews and appreciate reading the comments left by customers.

I just have a few question. If a full relaxer cost is $75.00, then what is the cost for a touch-up? And, also if I were to request a full relaxer, trim and wrap-set then what will be the total cost? I ask these questions because I am looking for an affordable salon for total hair care.

Thanking you in advance for your answers to my questions.

    Best regards,

    Cynthia A.

I go to Arelis all the time now that I have moved to Laurel. I changed up last week and went to a salon close to my job and boy did I make a mistake. My hair was horrible (STAR HAIR DESIGN in ROCKVILLE). The next day I called Arelis salon and they told me to come in and they would fix it for me…they put me in a chair and blew my hair so straight I was so pleased!!! I am always pleased when I leave this salon . I can’t wait to go TOMORROW! :) They took my hair from BUSHY and UGLY to WONDERFUL!

    Hi everyone,

I have been to the Arelis Salon in Silver spring after a 2-hour drive.
I chose this salon based on all the positive comments I have read on this blog.
    I am a 100% , 4b natural.
When I got there , all my hopes were high. I was thinking that I finally found a salon that will help and coach me on how to take care of my hair, at a “reasonable driving distance”……but Lord, I was far from expecting what happened there…
A stylist called Rosine, came up to me after a short wait of 15 mins, to abruptely let me know that if I wanted a “wash” in this salon, I would “have to pay $90″ because my hair was “really, natural natural”! She continued with recommending that I “put some texturizer” in my hair, and that she would charge me $170 for that service… I was stoned!
I had called earlier to inquire about the charge for a wash and set on natural hair, and was told that it would be $55…!
I felt played around and humiliated. I could not believe what I was hearing.

I have been to Luisa’s and Claudia’s before and never had any pb. I have always been treated respectfully.
One thing is sure, I will never go back there and I will make sure that all my friends know how unprofessional, crooked and disrespectful the staff at Arelis salon was.
