The 411 On The New ‘Original Color’ Cellophanes!!

Published by JenniferMD at 2:18 pm under Product Reviews

As you may or may not know by now, we’ve discontinued the Color Shower’s Cellophane (if you didn’t know this, you need to join our Newsletter). There’s been a lot of anticipation about which brand would replace the Color Showers. A few days ago we announced that we were replacing them with the Original Color’s Cellophane by Stoken Gold!

The reason we decided to switch brands is very simple and can be explained in this short story:

Once upon a time there was a great cellophane brand called Color Shower’s that came in a simple black and white bottle. It was 100% natural, thick, vegetable based, covered grays, didn’t leak on sheets & clothes, etc.

Then one magical day the bottle changed – it was bright and colorful (to the naked eye, this seemed like an improvement). Ah, but the truth was that along with the bottle it seemed as though the formula had changed. :–(

We called the manufacturers and they assured us that the formula was “lo mismo” (the same). But the ladies of RoundBrushHair.com are no fools! The thick consistency of the cellophane was no longer there – it was more like a runny, messy [insert any fitting noun of your choice here]. It was still coloring hair, but not like before!

In the end, I took a trip down to the good ol’ DR in March of 2009 and started my journey on finding a new line of cellophanes to carry. The End!

So in March while in

Santo Domingo, I talked to a few friends, family members, stylists and strangers (with beautiful hair of course) and found myself applying the Black Original Color’s Cellophane to my hair at home. Here’s the bucket and products I picked up from the local market and lugged back home in el carro público to do my hair:

buck and products

The whole process of doing my hair took about – ummm, I can’t remember. But the application of the cellophane was very simple. After washing my hair, I put about ¼ of the 16oz bottle on my hair (making sure it’s saturated from the roots to ends). [The amount of cellophane you use will vary with the length of your hair.] I sat under a hooded dryer for 30 minutes then I rinsed it out with warm water!

The color was beeeeautiful! And talk about shine!! Here’s a picture of my hair after roller setting and blow-drying it straight:

Black Dominican Cellophane    Black Dominican Cellophane

I sooo wish I had a before picture to show you. :–(  The Original Color’s Cellophane is very similar to the old bottle of the Color Showers: it’s 100% natural, thick, vegetable based, and I haven’t had any problems of messy sheets/clothes)

Now I need your help! I have a great idea: I want to do another blog entry about the new cellophanes, but next time I want to do a tutorial on how I apply it. Sooo, which color would you like to see me apply?

Ambar / Amber                  Castaño / Chestnut              Miel / Honey

Bronce                             Chocolate                            Negro / Black

Café / Coffee                    Clear                                   Rojisimo / Red

Canela / Cinnamon            Cobre / Copper                  Rojo Vino / Red Wine

Caoba / Mahogany            Gold                                   Uva / Grape

Majority will decide! This should be interesting. (Oh, and you can choose for me to mix colors too) Please don’t set me up! lol

Update: Thanks to all who voted. I applied the Rojimiso and love it! I will post the pictures soon. :–)

Hey Jennifer, glad to see that the blogs are back in effect!! Since my hair is a medium brown, of course I’m going to say anything in the brown family. I really would love to see the bronze as well too. Thank you for your devotion, determination and passion when it comes to giving us roundbrushhair divas the best that the domincan beauty realm has to offer. The fact that you had the conviction and fortitude to call the manufacturer and do research that we can have the best that there is to offer is mind blowing and so greatly appreciated!!

  22. Gigion 16 Sep 2009 at 2:23 pm

    Hey Jennifer!

Love your hair! I vote for Amber.

Thanks for explaining what went down the color showers.

  23. Wheezyon 17 Sep 2009 at 11:12 am

    Hey Jenn,
I have a question. So with this new “original colors” you don’t have to let the color sit? You can just get from under the dryer for 30 mins or so and go straight to rinse it out? That would be wonderful. It would cut my salon time significantly!

  24. Kelleighchrison 18 Sep 2009 at 6:13 am

Hi Jennifer– I’m new to your blog and I love it!! This site is so useful. Thanks for all the info.

I have highlights and I was wondering if it’s safe to use Cellophanes if you’ve used permanent color on your hair. I had them done in May, but they’ve started to fade. I was hoping one of the red shades could help revive the color.

Also, could you do a post about your hair regimen? I would love to hear what you do to get such gorgeous hair.

    Thanks!

Jennifer, I have 2 - the Clear and the Castano. I sent in two pictures to put in as testimonials. I haven’t gotten any response to whether they will be or not, though. You could see what my hair looks like in those pictures if you get the chance. Today I’m gonna put the Clear. I LIVE for super shine, just like in your hair pictures! I just PRAY I have HALF as much shine as you do!

Keep up the excellent work on this site! I really have become quite fond of your products!

  26. wavezncurlzon 21 Sep 2009 at 11:09 am

    Jennifer,
I love the black. I vote for amber next. Q-does this product work on gray hair? I was told that cellophanes do not cover gray. I have some on my temple.

  27. Aminaon 04 Oct 2009 at 6:43 pm

    Hi Jennifer,
I’d love to see you try the Red Wine!!

  28. Kon 05 Oct 2009 at 8:53 am

Long time…. Jennifer thank you for posting the blog on Color Showers. I have tried the rojo, mahogany, black, Cooper and noticed that my hair started to dry out. Glad you find another one, hope this one leaves my hair silky and shinny like the OLLLLLLDDDDD Color showers lol! I will be placing my order today. Thanks

  29. Sandraon 05 Oct 2009 at 1:39 pm

I would love to see you apply Rojisimo. I am leaning towards that one.

  30. Tamon 05 Oct 2009 at 4:27 pm

I’m ordering the chocolate today and hopfully it will cover my gray!! LOL.

  31. Kon 07 Oct 2009 at 8:49 am

Fast shipping, put it in last night (Red wine) and WOW! lots of shine. Covered my gray strands and I didn’t have to put any shine spray on my hair. This new product will be in my must haves. :-)

Step 1- relaxed my hair (washed with neutralizing shampoo and towel dried)

Step 2- applied Original colors, put on shower cap,sat under dryer for an hour

Step 3- rinsed out, applied a little leave-in conditioner, roller set, blow out.

Please note: Cellophanes cover gray, and best results are achieved when your hair is light in color.

Oh…….. and ladies don’t be afraid to mix up the colors. Good luck!

  32. Noeliaon 12 Oct 2009 at 10:16 am

Hiiii! If any of you ladies has tried a red of any sort, can you pleeeeease post the pic to share? Thank you! ;-) And Jennifer, git it gurl! That hair is on point!

  33. Noeliaon 12 Oct 2009 at 10:18 am

Jennifer, I just read your update (a bit late, sorry). I can’t wait to see your red hair!!! :-D

  34. MissMoon7on 18 Oct 2009 at 11:30 pm

I read the blog entry about the Original Cellophanes, so I wanted to give them a try. I looked at the sample swatches, and chose Cobre. The shipping was fast, and the products came securely and neatly packaged. I can’t wait to use it! Thank you :-)

  35. Vanessaon 22 Oct 2009 at 3:34 pm

Your hair is beautiful. What products do you use on your hair? And do you relax it?

  36. Renaon 09 Nov 2009 at 7:03 pm

I think you should try grape…a deep purple…
your hair is so beautiful! :)

  37. shannonon 11 Nov 2009 at 6:03 am

    Hey Jennifer,

I have ordered the new “Original Colors”by Stoken Gold in black since the ” Color Showers” is no longer being carried. I noticed the Stoken Gold in black was not as thick and semed to have a brown hue ( not as black as the color showers) Your hair looks great!! But I wanted to clarify your post. Are you saying that there was a color BEFORE the”Color Showers” that was better than the one you just replaced and now IT is being replaced with the Stoken Gold brand?? I am asking because the Stoken Gold doesn’t seem to be as thick. I still have the old product that I have not used. Will use the other and see what results I get. Just wanted your clarification.

    Thanks so much!!

  38. Laverneon 14 Nov 2009 at 10:23 pm

I use your products for the first time and I love how it leaves my hair soft and no greasey feeling on my hand. Feels like silk. I only problem I have right now it the gray bling blinging through my naturally tight culy hair (good hair some would say) . But after a blow dry you would never knew my hair was shoudler length..

    11/7/09
I got a good trim last week and I hope to grow my hair long like your..Any recommendation would be great.

  39. Jacqueline Eon 06 May 2010 at 7:47 am

Hi Jennifer….Your hair is GORGEOUS!!! That black is sooo beautiful…I’m ordering some right now.
Ummm did you try another color? I’d love to see pics!
